An old postcard of this motel once promised thirty five spacious rooms with private tile baths, steam heat, a guest lounge and a restaurant open from five in the morning, all beside beautiful Lake Cumberland and on the road to Cumberland Falls. Decades later, 7 Gables Motel still stands on US Highway 27 in Burnside, still locally owned, and still serving the lake crowd that made it famous.
Burnside calls itself the only city on Lake Cumberland, and the motel sits in its small historic downtown, about a quarter mile from Burnside Marina and roughly a mile from General Burnside Island State Park. Today's rooms bring microwaves, smart televisions and free wifi, there is a seasonal outdoor pool, pets and motorcyclists are welcome, and the large lot has room for boats, street rods and RVs. Guests praise clean rooms and southern hospitality.
